Location

The Mahatma Gandhi College of Law is located in the historical city of Gwalior in the State of Madhya Pradesh - the heart of India. A mine of rich cultural heritage, it is the land of the legendary music maestro, Tansen. Apart from being on the tourist map of India for its glorious historical past, the city is a thriving centre for modern technological advancements. The fourteenth largest city of India, Gwalior is in the fast lane of development, complete with the quintessential paraphernalia of a happening city – modern residential complexes, malls, hi-tech computer centres, sports clubs, swimming pools, pool parlours, trendy eating joints, plush hotels, etc. It is this harmonious blend of traditional past and trendy modernism which lends Gwalior its unique flavour.

Complimented by its rich cultural and historical bounty, Gwalior is fast emerging as a leading educational centre of northern India. It provides the location to national level institutes for information technology, travel and tourism, defence research, hotel management, physical education, BSF, etc. besides several engineering, management and medical colleges and public schools of repute.

College Building

The college campus is located against the scenic backdrop of hills, laden with thick foliage. Untouched by the chaos of the city, the campus provides the perfect ambience for learning. Beautifully landscaped, the college campus has some exotic plants, such as sandalwood, teak, etc.

The campus has been designed to be energy-independent through the utilization of state-of-the-art solar photo-voltaic technology and other non-conventional energy resources. The complex also conforms to Vastu standards.

A modern hostel complex is proposed to be constructed within the precincts of the campus. The complex will house all modern amenities. State-of -the-art technology is being employed to fashion specially designed classrooms conforming to European standards, equipped with electronic teaching aids, such as projectors, electronic boards, etc.

Library

MGCL boasts of a comprehensive library that includes reference and textbooks on Law, Sociology, History, Economics, Computer Science, Political Science, Culture etc. Journals, magazines & periodicals numbering about two dozen such as AIR, SCC, SCD, MPHT, MPLT, CPJ,CCLJ, ATLT, Indian Law Institute Journals etc. are also subscribed. The library is being constantly upgraded and expanded. Also, the Institute is gearing up to initiate research in legal software and set up online digital information library on the lines of Legal Information Institute of Cornell USA. A most modern state-of-the-art computer section, equipped with multi-media facility, is being integrated into the library.

MGCL exhorts its students to cultivate good reading habits as it goes a long way in the making of a successful lawyer.

Computer Cell

Computer literacy being one of the essential components of a successful career in a global profession like law, MGCL provides computer education as an important ingredient of the curriculum. To achieve this end, MGCL has a fully equipped computer lab with numerous systems, internet connectivity, CD-ROMS of legal text, Pentium III/IV machines with multimedia, speech recognition and other facilities as, also, an active Web Site involving student participation.

Career Opportunities

Law Graduates can work as : Legal Counsels & legal advisors for firms,organization and farmilies trustees of various trusts, professors, law reporters, company secretary and so on. Opportunities exist in the deence services too. Additional qualifications along with a Law degree offer scope for a wide range of emloyment opportunities.

Lawyers are appointed n central services (Indian Legal Service) through UPSC on grounds of their experience in the field. Posts covered under Indian Legal Service are Law officers, Assistant Advisors, Dy.Legal Advisors and legal Advisors.

State Legal Services appoint lawyers through SPSC exams in senior positions in state Police/Revenue/Judicial Departments.

In the judiciary, the posts are those of the agistrate, district and sessions judge, munsif (sub-magistrate), public prosecutor, solicitor, attorney general, notary and oath comissioner. There are also legal secretaries appointed in assemblies, law inspectors, legal officers in banks,judicial members of Income tax, sales tax and excise departments goverment advocateds and staff in the Registrar of Companies office.

Student Counselling & Placement Cell

Career Counselling & Placement Cell of the MGCL provides the successful students with guidance regarding selection of areas of practice, assciation with Senior Advocates, Identification of law firms and corporate entities for appointment as legal officers, etc. On-campus interviews are conducted to help the students identify employers and find employment in a variety of positions in the Government Service as well as other fields.
